For example, in New Zealand, you are unable to build any structure, including an outdoor fireplace directly on your neighbours boundary, without their permission. In this example, if you need to install an outdoor fire near their boundary, allow a gap, from the back of your fireplace to your boundary, of 1.5 metres. But please note \u2014 the responsibility for assessing the rules for your region, and\/or checking with your neighbour, lies with you.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: left; font-weight: bold;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #e94420;\">Wind direction and smoke<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">If your predominant wind would blow smoke towards you neighbour &#8211; some consideration is needed. This might be an opportunity for a discussion with your neighbour \u2014 but to avoid producing too much smoke, start your <span style=\"color: #e94420;\">fire with small pieces of dry wood<\/span>, then slowly add more. This will significantly reduce how much smoke you create.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"ult-spacer spacer-69f1e3854e633\" data-id=\"69f1e3854e633\" data-height=\"20\" data-height-mobile=\"20\" data-height-tab=\"\" data-height-tab-portrait=\"\" data-height-mobile-landscape=\"20\" style=\"clear:both;display:block;\"><\/div><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><h5><span style=\"color: #e94420;\"><strong>What to do?<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Consider how you can install the fire off the boundary.
